Norway September 2013: Tesla Model S in pole position!
* NOW UPDATED with the Top 30 models and Top 35 All-brands! Thanks Øystein *
It did it. We already knew the Tesla Model S topped the overall Norwegian models ranking during the first week of September, but I doubted it could maintain that level on a full month. Turns out it can. In September the Model S did what no full electric car ever managed before in the world: finish a month in pole position. Full stop. That’s how big what Tesla managed in Norway. Yes, we are looking at one of the biggest worldwide sales events of the year. There. I’ve said it.
Selling an incredible 616 units for a 5.1% market share vs. 561 and 4.6% for the VW Golf, the Model S is up 14 spots on August and pushes the Tesla brand up to #7 in between Skoda and Nissan this month… The Model S is the first model to beat the VW Golf in a monthly ranking so far in 2013 and only the 5th car to have done so in the last 4 years after the Volvo V70 in December 2009, 2010 and 2012, the VW Passat in June 2011, Toyota Avensis in February 2012 and the Ford Focus in June 2012…
Note Model S sales are the result of 2 years’ worth of orders being delivered now, but this doesn’t detract from its incredible performance next to which all other movements in the Norwegian September ranking seem insignificant. To name a few, the Skoda Octavia is up 3 spots to #4, Volvo V40 up 5 to #6, BMW 3 Series up 4 to #14, Volvo XC60 up to #14, Volvo V60 up 9 to #16 and the Suzuki SX4 is up to #27 vs. #77 over the Full Year 2012 thanks to the new S-Cross model.
