As is the tradition on BSCB, Iranian monthly data reflects production, not sales but it actually gives a relatively close picture of the most popular cars in the country given the high import duties. In the Persian calendar, August 2013 is roughly equivalent to the 5th month of the Persian year 1392, Mordad. While Iranian production had slowed down its freefall last month at -31%, it is back to a harsh -39% in August to just 34,969 units, with its decline further impacted by the withdrawal of Renault from the country – the Tondar 90 aka Logan is down 85% year-on-year and the Megane down 87%. Plus either Chery production stopped this month or the data wasn’t communicated.

Saipa Tiba Iran August 2013Saipa Tiba production is up 40% year-on-year.

The Saipa Pride continues to be by far the most popular vehicle in the country in spite of a year-on-year 41% drop to 11,799 units. Only 3 models increase their production year-on-year: the Peugeot Pars, impressive at +32% to #2 and 5,953 units, the Saipa Tiba up 40% to #6 and 2,290 units and the Iran Khodro Runna up 728% to #7 and 2,061 units, understandable for the latter two as they are relatively recent launches.
