Russia August 2013: Lada 4×4 and Chevrolet Cruze outstanding

6th consecutive month of year-on-year decline for the Russian new car market, down 10% in August to 213,915 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 1,799,805 units, down 7% on 2012. The Lada Granta celebrates 12 straight month atop the models ranking, selling 14,951 units for a 6.4% market share this month. The Hyundai Solaris at 8,590 units and 3.7% and Kia Rio at 7,159 sales and 3.1% remain #2 and #3 respectively but there are two big events in the August Top 5: first the arrival for the first time of the Chevrolet Cruze, up 2 spots on a record #6 spot in July to land in 4th place at 6,294 units and 2.7% which are however not its all-time highs.

Second the outstanding progression of the 36 year-old Lada 4×4 (aka Niva), up a huge 13 ranks on July to rank at a fantastic #5 thanks to 5,885 sales and 2.5% share, up 24% on August 2012 and above the Renault Duster, down 3 spots to #7… This the model’s best monthly ranking in at least 3 years and a fantastic achievement for its age. Further down, the Lada Largus is back up 2 ranks to #8 with a record 5,514 units and 2.4%, and is now #10 year-to-date. Notice also the Nissan Qashqai up to #15 and the Toyota RAV4 up to #16.
