The Taiwanese new car market is down a harsh 17% year-on-year in August to 21,306 registrations, which means the year-to-date total is now down 4% on 2012 at 243,601 units. No surprises in pole position: the Toyota Corolla celebrates 27 consecutive months at this level thanks to 1,832 sales and 8.6% share, adding up to 24.032 and 9.9% year-to-date. The Nissan Tiida is up 4 spots on July to land in 2nd position for the first time since last January, the Nissan Livina is up one to #3 and 4 Toyotas follow: the Wish (-2), RAV4 (+3), Yaris (+1) and Camry (-2).
The new model, just unveiled, should help the CMC Veryca stay in the Top 10 this year.
But the real hero this month is the Ford Kuga: for its very first appearance in the Taiwanese sales charts, it lands directly inside the Top 10 at #9 with 608 sales and 2.9%, confirming Taiwan’s taste for stylish SUVs after the success of the new generations Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. Other great performers this month include the Mercedes C-Class up 13 ranks to #17, Mercedes E-Class up 8 to #18, BMW 5 Series up 6 to #22, BMW 3 Series up 7 to #24, Subaru Forester up 5 to #27 and the Mercedes S-Class reappearing in the Top 50 at #50.
