South Africa August 2013: Toyota Hilux #1, Ford Ecosport lands

As the automotive industry enters a third week of industry-wide strikes, the impact to domestic sales has been kept to a minimum with registrations down just 0.3% in August to 56,112 units, keeping the year-to-date volume up 6% to 436,005 sales. Export sales suffered though, down 23% year-on-year this month. The Toyota Hilux is back in pole position in August with 3,339 sales and 6%, making it 5 times at #1 so far this year and enabling it to reclaim the year-to-date top spot thanks to 25,642 units and 5.9%. The VW Polo Vivo is down to #3 this month, passed by the VW Polo for the 2nd time so far in 2013, and #2 year-to-date at 24,714 units and 5.7%.
As expected, the Toyota Etios is rock solid at #4, its 16th consecutive month inside the South African Top 7, while the Ford Ranger is up one spot to #5 and the Chevrolet Utility and Isuzu KB are both up 2 to #6 and #7 respectively. The Ford Ecosport makes a brilliant start in the South African sales charts, landing directly in 21st place thanks to 522 sales and 0.9%, while the Nissan Almera is up two to #27 at 439 units and 0.8% for its 2nd month in market. Other great performers this month include the Mercedes C-Class up 3 ranks to #10 and the Renault Clio IV up 15 to #19,
