USA June 2013: Chevrolet Cruze & Equinox hit best-ever volumes
The Chevrolet Cruze sold a record 32,871 units in the US in June.

Even the sunniest predictions for US June car sales were obliterated, with the market up 9% to 1.4 million registrations which brings the year-to-date total to 7.8 million units, up 8% on 2012. According to Autonews, these extremely strong results provide fresh signs that the industry’s recovery will remain robust in the second half of the year. Even better, the SAAR (Seasonally Adjusted Annual Sales Rate), a key barometer of long-term sales trends, surged to just under 16 million, compared to 14.4 million a year ago, and brings the industry back to its late 2007 level. Analysts now expect the US light-vehicle market to reach 15.3 million to 15.5 million for the year, compared with 14.5 million in 2012.
The Ford F-Series hits its best June volume in 8 years.
General Motors’ chief economist Mustafa Mohatarem said “America’s families are better off than they were at the beginning of the year and they believe – with good justification – that the economic expansion is going to continue. Even moderate economic growth will be enough to keep the auto sales rate in the second half of the year at healthy levels around the mid 15 million-unit mark.” If Ford is up 13% year-on-year in June, General Motors delivers its best month since September 2008, with Cadillac is up 38% year-on-year, a growth rate it hadn’t seen since 1976.
The Dodge Ram is now the 5th best-selling vehicle in the US so far in 2013.
It’s mainly pick-up trucks that are pulling the market upwards once again: the Ford F-Series lodges its 23rd consecutive monthly year-on-year increase, up 24% to 68,009 sales – its best June since 2005, the Chevrolet Silverado is up 29% to 43,259 units (GM reports 6,000 all-new 2014 crew cab Silverado/Sierra models have already found a buyer) and the Dodge Ram is up 24% to 29,644 sales, passing the Nissan Altima to now rank #5 year-to-date.
Chevrolet Impala
Two Chevrolet passenger cars hit their strongest volume ever: the Cruze is up a whopping 73% on June 2012 to 32,871 sales, ranking #4 and 2nd best-selling passenger car this month below just the Toyota Camry (35,870), while the Equinox is up 14% to #13 with 23,645 units. Notice also the Ford Escape up one further spot to #8 with 28,694 sales, the Toyota RAV4 up 36% to #17 and the Chevrolet Impala up 20 ranks to #19.
Fiat 500L
Further down, the BMW 3 Series is up 9 spots on May and 63% year-on-year to #38, the Ford Fiesta up 20 and 104% to #47, the Dodge Dart down 7 to #68, Chevrolet Volt up 39 to #119, Mitsubishi Outlander up 38 to #169, Kia Cadenza up 39 to #172, the Fiat 500L makes its very first appearance in the US ranking at #207 with 541 sales, the Jaguar F-Type is up 14 to #218 and the Mini Paceman up 10 to #225.
