As the Pikes Peak race is getting close, I thought it would be timely to add a new territory on BestSellingCarsBlog: Colorado, located towards the centre of the United States with Denver as its capital. I have found detailed manufacturer data, but no models data (yet) so if you have access to models info please make sure you comment on this article. After California and New York, we continue to zoom in on a few regions in the US market and here too there are some very interesting specificities in Colorado.
Toyota Tundra. Toyota is the most popular carmaker in Colorado.
Firstly, the Colorado new car market is behaving even better than the American one as a whole so far in 2013: sales are up 15% year-on-year after 5 months to 67,217 registrations. In may, the market is up 10% to 12,966 units. Brand-wise, there is a big change as the most popular carmaker in Colorado is different than in the USA overall: Toyota leads the way both in May with 1,762 sales and 13.6% share and year-to-date at 8,807 units and 13.1%. Note these figures include Scion. Ford, leader overall, ranks #2 here with 1,631 sales and 12.6% in May (up an impressive 19%), 8,756 and 13% year-to-date (+18%).
But the biggest surprise comes in third place: whereas it is frankly outside the Top 10 overall in the USA (#12 year-to-date), Subaru snaps an amazing #3 spot in Colorado thanks to 1,238 sales and 9.5% in May and an even stronger score year-to-date: 6,746 units and 10% share! It would be fascinating to have the models-detail for Subaru in Colorado to see which part of the range is behind this exceptional performance. Honda is #4 like in the US overall, Chevrolet is down to #5 vs. #2, Volkswagen is up to #8 vs. #12.
