Germany May 2013: BMW 3 Series back on podium

Tough month for new car sales in Germany, down 10% year-on-year in May to 261,316 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 1,219,717 units, down 9% on 2012. Below the VW Golf at 7.3% share and the VW Passat at 2.3%, the BMW 3 Series is back inside the German podium for the 5th time in the last 6 months at #3 with 6,203 sales and 2.2% share after dropping to #5 in April. With the VW Polo down to #4 and 1.8%, the 3 Series also reclaims the third spot in the 2013 year-to-date ranking.
The Audi A3 lodges another extremely solid month at #5 with 4,991 units and 1.8% while the VW Tiguan and BMW 1 Series are stable at #6 and #7 respectively and the Opel Corsa is up 6 spots to #10. There is only one foreign model in the German Top 20 this month: the Skoda Fabia (#20), there are 6 in the Top 30: the Skoda Octavia (#23), Fiat Ducato (#25), Seat Ibiza (#27), Seat Leon/Toledo/Altea (#28) and the Hyundai i30 (#30), and there are only 11 in the Top 50: the Fiat 500 (#36), Toyota Yaris (#42), Dacia Sandero (#46), Renault Clio (#49) and Peugeot 208 (#50).
Other great performers this month in Germany include the Ford C-Max up 27 ranks on April to #26, the Opel Adam up 4 to a record #33, the VW Beetle up 5 to a best-ever #41 for this generation and the Mercedes CLA up 8 to #53. Five newcomers make themselves noticed: the Peugeot 2008 is up a whopping 125 ranks to #79, the Renault Captur lands directly at #91, the Chevrolet Trax is up 134 to #132, the Renault Zoe up 62 to #193 and the Jaguar F-Type up 57 to #203.
