It’s turning out to be a fascinating year to follow new car sales in Algeria, with plenty of new models making big waves in the ranking. Launched last month, the new generation Renault Symbol is up 75% on its April score and simply manages to take the lead of the Algerian sales charts in May for its 2nd month in market thanks to 3,592 sales. It is now #10 year-to-date at 5,648 units. In 2nd place for the 4th time in a row we find the Peugeot 301, down 17% on April to 2,279 units. With the Dacia Logan (#2 in 2012) hit full frontal by the Symbol and absent from the Top 10 for the last 3 months, the 301 is actually fighting for the year-to-date pole position already, adding up to 13,666 sales so far in 2013 vs. an estimated 14,000 for the Logan. Told you, fascinating.
On top last month, the Renault Clio IV is down to a still very impressive third position in May at 2,060 units and also ranks third year-to-date. The Seat Ibiza continues on its incredible run and remains 4th with 1,992 sales, a position it also holds year-to-date at 10,756 units. The VW Polo is down 2 ranks to #5, the Toyota Hilux up 3 to #6 while both the Peugeot 207 (#8) and Hyundai Accent (#9) reappear in the monthly Algerian Top 10… Brand-wise, thanks to the Symbol Renault is by far the most popular carmaker this month with 8,860 sales but still trails Peugeot year-to-date at 42,023 units vs. 42,909. Notice Dacia down to #6 vs. #3 year-to-date.
