After surging by 29% last month, the Venezuelan new car market is disappointingly back down 5% year-on-year in May to 11,145 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 49,548 units, down 10% on 2012. Faithful to its volatile tradition, the models rankings gets another shuffle this month apart from the pole position closely guarded by the Chevrolet Aveo at 1,314 sales and 11.8% share. The Mitsubishi Lancer impresses again, up one spot on April to #2 at 980 units and an outstanding 8.8% share, followed by the Ford F350 up 2 ranks to #3 and the Ford Explorer up 5 to #4.
The Chevrolet Orlando delivers the best performance of the month, up 13 spots to reach a best-ever 7th spot with 400 sales and 3.6%, beating the #10 spot it reached for its first month in market last November. The DongFeng S30 is easing down slowly to #8 this month but remains on the 2013 year-to-date podium with just under 3,000 units sold and 6% market share.
