New Caledonia is an overseas French territory North-East of Australia and contrary to Metropolitan France, in May new car sales are up 1% to 848 units, bringing the year-to-date total to 4,283, down 3% on 2012. The models ranking podium is once again identical to the year-to-date ranking, with the Ford Ranger leading the way at 7% share, followed by the Toyota Hilux at 5.4% and the Dacia Duster at 4.4%. The Nissan Navara is up 7 spots on April to #4, making its 3 pick-ups in the Top 4.
Great performers this month include the Renault Twingo up from oustide the Top 30 last month to #5 with 3.1% share, the Dacia Sandero up to #13 and the Peugeot 301 up to a best-ever 14th place, both models holding 2% of the New Caledonian market this month. This last move is very interesting as the 301 is not officially on sale in Metropolitan France but obviously available in New Caledonia. Finally the Renault Captur, launched last month, sells 6 units in May which brings its total in the archipelago to-date to 11.
