Finally Chinese models data for January is in, and it’s a whopper month indeed: up 46% on January 2012 now that Japanese carmakers are back in shape. The biggest event this month is the unreal level reached by the VW Lavida, now taking full advantage of the new generation and up to an incredible 48,267 sales in just one month. This is almost 10,000 units above the previous Passenger Car monthly volume record of 38,362 sales detained by the Ford Focus last November, and the first time a Passenger Car sells upwards of 40,000 units in a single month. In fact in January 15 models sold over 20,000 units and 44 sold over 10,000, which are new records to be compared to just 9 and 27 respectively in the USA during the same month

The Ford Focus is down to #2 with a still excellent 33,632 sales, while the Buick Excelle doubles its December figure to pass the 30,000 monthly unit-milestone for the first time at 30,264 sales, becoming the 6th model to have reached  that level after the BYD F3, VW Passat, Lavida, Chevrolet Sail and Ford Focus. The VW Sagitar is down one spot to #6 but breaks its monthly record at 26,184 units while the Hyundai Verna is up 10 to a best-ever #7 and 25,684 sales, its very first time above 20,000 monthly units.

Thanks Matt, what a wonderful site. (I’d not seen it before)

We just started supplying the UK with Great Wall Cars, SUVs and Pick-ups.
(Well Pick-ups only right now, but the C30 and Haval are coming later this year)

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for the useful car sales information.

    :-)

Hi Matt, from Jan. 2013 on, Buick Excelle have had a discount of 10% to 20%, in this case, this car sold very good in Jan. and result in that people should wait for at least 15 days to get the car, when people buy the car in Feb. The Buick does not think the car sale can double with the discount. I guess the sale of this car may reduce 1/3 in Feb. compared to that in Jan. since no stock and there are only 28 days in Feb. Let’s check your figure in Feb.

I read your blog 3 months ago, the figures are very useful to me, appreciate very much.

Thanks – I forgot – it would be nice to have a true sales list – it would be good to see actual sales. For example – Renault recalled 60K Koleos made over 3 1/2 years – that’s 17K per year – probably more than Korea…

That was not the question of rocket man ! He wanted to know that toycar-brand you prefer, not what car you want to drive, when you are grown up! So ones more, what is your favourite toycar-brand ? Siku, Kyosho or matchbox or something else ?

    @Nishant Vass

Jaguar-Land Rover are currently building a factory in China in partnership with Chery, production is due to start in 2015.

Rocket man, in fact I just can´t see VW cars! I´m sick and tired of this marque. I drive a Nissan 350 Z Sports… an impressive car. Only the fuel consumption is high.

Could you tell me why Jaguar Land Rover does not feature in this list? As per my knowledge it has strong volumes of the “Evoque” and “Freelander”. Could you see if that data of sales is missing in the same.

      Hi Nishant,
As far as I know Jaguar Land Rover don’t produce in China yet?
This ranking does not include imports.
      Cheers,

It would be interesting to see the imported car figures at some stage, especially for SEAT and Renault.

You can assume, that he (Miguel) does not drive anything, but matchbox-cars judging by his always childish statements, briefly speaking: his statements als troll-postings. And by the way steam und miguel may be the same person (my assumption) :)

Top-5-brands are not chinese. Ford-sales are highly dominated by the Focus (77,8 %).

That includes import undoubtedly and I’m sure other foreign brands have big import numbers too so I’m not sure it would change the ranking…
Interestingly too, China has become the number 1 market for PSA Peugeot Citroen in January! They sold 49,199 vehicles in France that same month. And the Chinese numbers we have don’t include imports!
