After finishing 2012 down 3% year-on-year, new car sales in Poland start 2013 on the up: +10% in January vs. January 2012 at 29,859 registrations. Massive event atop the models ranking: for the first time since December 2008, the Skoda Fabia is above the Octavia and takes the lead in Poland with a whopping 1,650 sales and 5.5%, its best volume and share in 4 years and third highest monthly volume in the last 5 years behind December 2008 (1,890) and January 2008 (1,856)… 2008 was a year of transition in Poland that saw the Octavia clawing its way to #1 four times before definitely taking the lead in 2009. 2012 could turn out to be the same, with the arrival of the Skoda Rapid, up 53 spots to #21 with 387 sales and 1.3% in January, and the ‘premiumisation’ of the new gen Octavia redistributing the cards…
The Octavia is down to #2 at 1,148 units and 3.8%, still well below its 2012 level (5%) while the Opel Astra rounds up the podium with 851 sales and 2.9%. The Kia Sportage delivers a record month, up 5 spots to a best-ever #5 with 804 units and 2.7%, beating its previous best of #8 it hit last April. The Ford Fiesta is up 16 ranks to #8, the VW Passat up 4 to #10, VW Polo up 30 to #12, Skoda Citigo up 16 to a best-ever #15 and the Dacia Lodgy is up 10 to #39.
