The Finnish new car market is down a horrid 28% year-on-year in January to 10,167 registrations. The Nissan Qashqai confirms it is the country’s favourite vehicle and amazingly delivers its 7th consecutive month in pole position thanks to 486 sales and 4.8% share. The VW Golf (4.6%), Toyota Avensis (4.3%) and Ford Focus (3%) follow while the Volvo V40 breaks into the Finnish monthly Top 5 for the very first time at #5 with 278 units and 2.7%.

Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V takes advantage of the new generation to jump up to a fantastic 7th place with 269 sales and 2.6% vs. #25 and 1.1% in the Full Year 2012 and the BMW 3 Series continues its impressive progression, up a further 3 spots on December to #8 at 259 units and 2.5% vs. #30 and 1% in FY2012. But the most noticeable arrival in the Finnish Top 30 this month is the all-new Opel Mokka, up to a promising (and world-best so far) #18 spot thanks to 151 sales for a 1.5% market share.

    Hi Max!

French cars have always sold well in Sweden (Lots of Francophiles!)
    The Citroên B11, DS, CX, GS, Peugeot 404. 204, 504, 205, Renault 4, 16
    -so many memories!

Fiat used to sell a lot of cars too in the 50´s, 60´s and the early 70´s
before rust heaps like the 131 Mirafiori, Ritmo etc etc. almost -or
    killed the make here.

Finland people in general have bad taste; in clothes, interior design and cars. I know cause I am finnish too. Anything that is bland, dull or safe bet would be great success here. Failures are usually original, good looking and rare things.

Sales of Skoda Octavia are going down – probably because of the introduction of the new model. They might recover when the production of the new model really has started.

Qashqai is really impressive. This is remarkable because it is not a new model.

Renault is strong in Sweden, but non-existent in Finland and Norway…why ?
