The Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association communicates each month the sales of locally produced models, which is a pretty accurate representation of the most popular new cars in the country as imports are still relatively limited. Pakistanese sales of local models are down 4% in 2012 to 154,735 registrations. The Toyota Corolla remains the most popular vehicle in the country with 38,616 sales and 25% down 9% on 2011. However towards the end of the year it got beaten up by the Suzuki Mehran, ranking #1 for 3 of the last 4 months of the year and peaking at an out-of-this-world 32% market share in December. Over the Full Year, the Mehran is up 11% to 32,920 units and 21.3% share.
In fact, the entire Top 4 best-selling models is unchanged on 2011, with the Suzuki Bolan rounding up the podium with 19,257 sales and 12.4%, up a very healthy 23% year-on-year, and the Suzuki Ravi at #4 with 13,948 units and 9%, down 7%. The Suzuki Cultus passes the Suzuki Alto – whose production has stopped during the year, to reach #5. The Suzuki Swift is up 18% at #8 and the Honda Civic up 17% at #9.

@eddy Now again the import policy is revised and the cars more than 3 years old can’t be imported ,therefore the import sales will drop dramatically and local sales will increase.
With the changes on import tariffs, I think more sales would appear on the import list as it would narrow the gap of locally produced and imported ones.
