Danish new car sales continue to impress amidst a gloomy European environment: up 8% year-on-year in November to 16,334 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 160,050 units, up 3% on 2011. The VW Up! is in pole position for the 5th time in the last 6 months and delivers its best score so far: 1,640 sales for a huge, world-best 10% market share! It is followed once again by its Bratislava twin the Skoda Citigo, equally impressive at a world-best #2 with 1,154 units and 7.1% share. To give a bit of perspective to this performance, it is interesting to note that with the Toyota Aygo, the Up! and the Citigo are the only models to have managed to sell upwards of 1,000 units in a single month in Denmark over the last 3 years – and the Up! has done it 6 consecutive times…

The third Bratislava sibling, the Seat Mii, is down 6 spots to a still world-leading #17 with 263 sales and 1.6% but is victim of its success, with production currently unable to follow demand, a backlog of 3,600 unfilled orders and a 3 month-waiting list that has prompted consumers to buy one of its other two twins. Strangely, Denmark is by far the Mii’s strongest market in the world (not Spain), so production will from now on be tailored to the Danish demand. All-in-all the Bratislava sisters add up to an amazing 3,057 sales and 18.7% share vs. 1,368 and 8.4% for the Kolin siblings with the Citroen C1 at #4, the Toyota Aygo at #5 and the Peugeot 107 at #15.

Other great performers in Denmark this month include the Kia Picanto back up 26 spots on October to #3, the VW Golf up 39 to #10, the Kia Cee’d up 3 to #14 vs. #31 year-to-date, the Mercedes C-Class up 29 to #16 and the Mazda6 up 59 to #37. There are two newcomers in the Danish Top 100: the Ford B-Max lands at #39 with 131 sales while the Fiat 500L ranks #83 at 32 units.
