The Vietnamese new car market is having a year off in 2012: sales are down 33% year-on-year in August to 6,448 units, bringing the year-to-date total to 48,910, down 32% on 2011. The Toyota Fortuner looks set to follow the Kia Morning as the best-selling vehicle in Vietnam in 2012: it ranks first for the 4th consecutive month in August 495 sales and 7.7% with its year-to-date total standing at 3,426 units and 7%.
For the second month in a row Toyota monopolises the Top 4 Vietnamese models ranking, and in August the Top 5 is identical to the 2012 year-to-date order. The Toyota Corolla Altis is #2 with 347 sales and 5.4%, followed by the Toyota Vios at 345 units and 5.4% also, the Toyota Innova with 316 sales and 4.9% and the Kia Morning at 262 units and 4.1%. The Toyota Camry is up 2 spots on July to #6 while the Kia Forte resists at #7 and a strong 2.8% share.
Ford has a very robust month, placing no less than 5 models in the Top 20 (only Toyota does better with 6), all at higher market shares than their 2012 ytd levels. The Fiesta leads the charge at #12 with 1.3%, ahead of the Everest at #13 and 1.3%, the Focus at #14 and 1.2%, the Escape at #18 and 0.9% and the Ranger at #19 and 0.9% also. Notice also the Nissan Grand Livina (#9), Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (#13) and Chery QQ (#18) making a rare appearance in the Top 20 in July.
