Thanks to myk we now have more recent data for Namibia for the first time on BSCB, albeit global market data and no models ranking. According to data published on allafrica.com from the Namibia Vehicle Sales report by Simonis Storm Securities, a local brokerage and research firm, 1,349 new vehicles were sold in the country in March 2012, a 13% year-on-year increase bring the last 12-month total to above 13,000 for the first time in the country…

Toyota and Volkswagen are the preferred brands in Namibia, adding up to 52% of the market that month. Model-wise, based on the observation on recent YouTube videos of the streets of the capital Windhoek, it appears the structure of the Namibian car market is very similar to that of neighbour South Africa, with the Toyota Hilux in all likelihood also in the lead followed by the VW Polo Vivo.

Other popular pick-ups in Namibia include the Opel Corsa KB, Isuzu KB and Nissan Hardbody, while among passenger cars Toyota is very strong with the Yaris and Corolla – with many generations of the latter swarming the streets of Windhoek. This could mean the Toyota Etios, once imported from South Africa, could do really well here…

Please get in touch if you have more info about the Namibian car market!
