My exploration of Scottish roads continues, driving Scotland’s best-selling car (for July), the Ford Fiesta, from Edinburgh to Loch Lomond. And while the Opel Astra has generally disappointed since the launch of the new generation a couple of years ago (it is only #7 so far in Europe), it looks like it still has many fans in Scotland where it is sold as the Vauxhall Astra. I saw so many on the roads today that I would have picked it as the current Scottish best-seller had I not had access to official sales data showing it ranks #3 year-to-date in 2012.
Good old me with one of many Scottish Vauxhall Astras. Many thanks to Audrey for the pic.
With Opel under siege for its poor European performance at the moment, it is interesting to see it leading the brands ranking in Scotland in 2012 year-to-date with 14,995 sales and 14.5% share, ahead of Ford at 13,075 and 12.6% and Volkswagen at 7,719 and 7.5%. Another proof was the significant amount of Vauxhall Insignias on the roads, with many station wagons. But Ford is not standing still, with the C-Max off to a reasonable start (and a favourite among fishermen) and the B-Max one of the main sponsors of the Edinburgh Fringe Summer Festival.
