Oman June 2012: Toyota Hilux & Land Cruiser kings of the desert

New car sales in Oman are truly going through a euphoric time, up 44% year-on-year in June to 17,041 units, bringing the year-to-date total to 95,783 registrations, up 17% on 2011. The June Top 6 best-sellers are unchanged vs. May while the Top 4 is unchanged vs. 2012 year-to-date, meaning the Toyota Hilux once again takes the lead with a huge 2,483 sales and 14.6% share and 13,619 and 14.2% year-to-date. The Toyota Land Cruiser Pick-up confirms it is now the 2nd most popular vehicle in the country with 1,712 units and a round 10% market share in June, bringing its year-to-date total to 8,852 and 9.2%.

Nissan Sunny

Another solid month for the Toyota Land Cruiser at 8.8% share in third place both in July and year-to-date, ahead of the Toyota Prado at #4. For the second month in a row the Nissan Sunny is the best-selling non-Toyota model in Oman at #5 with 623 sales and 5.7% with the Nissan D22 the only other ‘intruder’ in the Top 10 at #7, up 9 spots on May. The other 7 models in the July Top 10 are Toyotas with the Lexus LX taking the 10th spot. In fact, in the 2012 year-to-date models ranking and like in 2011 the entire Top 7 best-sellers are 100% Toyota!

Nissan Armada

Nissan has an excellent month in Oman with a few other models registering strong performances. The Nissan Patrol is up 9 ranks to #13, the Nissan Altima stays solid at #15 vs. #23 year-to-date and the Nissan Armada up 8 to #43. Other great performers in June include the Kia Cerato up 7 spots to #12, the Lexus RX up 7 to #34, the Hyundai Veloster up 18 to #40 and the Chrysler 300C up a massive 81 ranks to #57. Two models make their very first appearance in the Omani ranking: the Suzuki Swift DZire at #62 with 37 sales and the Toyota Alphard at #93 with 18 units.
