The Argentinean new car market is taking us on a roller coaster in this first half of 2012. After being down 4% last February, up 35% in March and down 8% in April when dealerships admitted there was a slowdown in the demand of new cars, sales are back up 12% year-on-year in May to 75,824 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 389,909 units, up 7% on 2011. The market may not have peaked out after all…
The Chevrolet Classic tops the models ranking for the 6th consecutive time with 4,465 sales and 5.9%, one full percentage point above its 2012 ytd share standing at 4.9% thanks to 18,930 units. The VW Gol Trend stays #2 with 3,397 sales and 4.5%, ahead of the old generation VW Gol Power at 2,779 units and 3.7%, now #4 year-to-date at 3.2%. The Peugeot 207 Compact is stable at #4 and 3.3%.
Excellent month for the Renault Sandero up 5 spots on April to #5 and 3.2%, followed by the Renault Kangoo also up 5 to #6 and 3% vs. 1.9% and #18 year-to-date. The VW Voyage shines at #12, the Peugeot 308 climbs to a best-ever #16 and the Chevrolet Sonic makes its very first appearance in the Argentinean Top 50 at #49 with 403 sales and 0.5%.
