Daihatsu BeGo Terios in Costa Rica
Now it’s the turn of Costa Rica to be under the spotlight! The Costa Rican car market differs from its neighbours in the fact that Toyota isn’t completely owning the place. Favoured by end consumers and rental car companies alike, the Daihatsu Terios (called BeGo Terios in Costa Rica) could very well be on top of the sales ranking.
The two other very successful models in Costa Rica are the Suzuki Grand Vitara and the Honda Civic. Other cars worth mentioning are the Toyota Hilux, Corolla and Yaris and the Hyundai Accent which, judging by the amount of previous gen Accents in the streets, may have been best-seller in the past.

Daihatsu Terios is a fun vehicle to drive. It takes off on a dime and it’s happy rev engine always feels like asking for more rpm while still increasing on speed. After a four hour drive, you simply don’t want to stop driving and I always look forward next morning to find that happy smily front fender telling you “I am ready boss for today’s challenge”. Then the magic smell from the cabin as you turn on the ignition. True enough, the Kia Sportage and the Hyundai Tucson are by far best sellers in Costa Rica. The Daihatsu is mainly reserved for rentals.
Ha Ha Ha I’m Costa Rica Native, Well what really happened in Costa Rica are the follow, Hyundai Accent and Elantra was not exactly the best sold cars in the pass what it really happened I was than between 1997 and 2003 there was a massive import of total lost junk Hyundai’s from Korea, was re painted and sold in mass, due to the lacking of regulations at that moment, many people Buy it as an economical family car for those ones than need a modern car but doesn´t have the money for one brand new, but after the 2004 when new emissions and the RTV regulations starts, things change and are when start to be more cheaper buy a brand new car instead of a used one to can complain with new regulations, Daithasu became popular mostly in Rent a cars, today best sale cars are the Kia Sportage 2010-2013 and Hyundai Tucson I-35 2010-2013 Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Accent and Elantra, Range Rover Evoque and Sport, follow by Fiat 500 and Mini.

The way I estimate the best-selling models in a country where I don’t have access to official sales data is by viewing as many recent YouTube videos of the streets of this country as possible, and this is what I have done for Costa Rica.
