Excellent month once again for car sales in Russia, up 25% year-on-year in February to 206,873 registrations. The year-to-date total is up 23% to 361,279 units. The Lada Priora takes the lead this month with 10,027 sales and 4.8% share, and also in 2012 year-to-date at 17,597 units and 4.9%. It is the 5th time in the last 12 months that the Priora is #1 in Russia and the first time since last September.
The Hyundai Solaris reaches its highest ranking ever at 9,308 sales and 4.5% for an amazing second place – possibly the highest ranking ever reached by a foreign model in Russia! (Even though it is built locally) The Solaris may even deliver an unheard-of pole position in the next months before the Granta reaches its full potential… Best-seller in 2011 and in January, the Lada Kalina falls to #3 this month with 8,217 units and 4% and #2 year-to-date at 4.6% share. Solid month for the Ford Focus, #4 at 3.2% and the Kia Rio, #5 at 2.9%, up 108% year-on-year.
After appearing in the ranking for the first time last month, the much awaited Lada Granta is up 14 spots and 186% on January to reach a promising 7th place with 5,618 sales and 2.7%, just above the Samara it replaces while the Lada 2105/7 is down to #14. Other great performers this year include the Chevrolet Cruze and Nissan Juke both up 2 ranks to #16 and #17 respectively – which means the Juke has passed the Qashqai (#18) for the first time! Notice also the VW Tiguan up to #19 and the Toyota Camry up to #22.
