The Taiwanese car market is up a very healthy 15% in 2011 at 378,291 registrations. As it has been the case for at least the last 6 years, the Toyota Corolla is the best-selling car in the country, even improving an impressive 34% on 2010 this year with 37,571 sales and just under 10% market share. The Nissan Tiida stays 2nd with sales up 12% to 18,151 units and 4.8% share. Rare feat, the Tiida was even #1 twice, in February and May.

2011 was the Nissan Livina’s best year ever in Taiwan

The fight for the third position was intense and turned in favour of the Toyota Wish for only 10 units! The Wish peaked at #2 in April and is at 15,886 sales, up 14% vs. 15,876 for the Nissan Livina, up 32% and peaking at #2 in August. Both models hold 4.2% of the market and are followed by the Toyota Yaris (+8%) and Camry (-3%) both also peaking at #2, in November for the first and October for the latter.

Taiwanese brand Luxgen places the 7 SUV at #12 and will launch a sedan in 2012

The Mitsubishi Veryca is the newcomer in the Top 10, up 2 spots to #9. Other great 2011 performers include the local Luxgen 7 SUV up 34% and 7 spots to #12 with 8,619 sales and 2.3%, peaking at a best-ever #6 and 4.2% in January, the Ford Focus up 22% to #14, Hyundai ix35 up 100% to #17 and VW Golf up 42% to #19.
