The Mexican car market is up 13% year-on-year this month at 75,680 registrations and up 11% year-to-date at 557,359 units. The VW Clasico confirms its leadership, ranking #1 for the 6th time in the last 7 months with 5,446 sales and 7.2%, comfortably above the Nissan Tsuru, #2 at 6.1%. Nissan has indeed slowed the production of the Tsuru down to make room for the new Versa, already #3 in August with 4,353 sales and 5.8%.

The Chevrolet Aveo is #4, followed by the VW Nuevo Jetta and the Nissan Tiida, in the process of being replaced by the Versa. The Nissan March is up to a robust 7th place with 2,156 sales and 2.8%. With the Chasis Largo at #8 and the Sentra at #12, Nissan places no less than 6 models in the Top 12, confirming its status of Mexico’s favourite car brand with 25% of the market.

Ford Escape

The other great performer this month is the Ford Escape breaking into the Top 10 at #10 with 1,554 sales and 2.1% market share.
