Paraguay 2011: Chevrolet Classic & Fiat Siena could be on top

Street scene in Asuncion, Paraguay. Picture by AFS USA

* Thanks to Seba & Pablo, I can now shed more light on the Paraguayan car market! *

Chevrolet Classic

No official data available for Paraguay, only that Chevrolet dominates and should be placing the Chevrolet Classic in the first place of the models ranking. Looking at the streets of the capital Asuncion, the Fiat Siena also seems to be among the best-sellers, however the current generation is nowhere to be seen on Fiat Paraguay's website. Strange. The VW Gol and Kia Rio are also popular.

Fiat Siena

Paraguay is land-locked, and an interesting fact about Paraguayan car sales is that 65% of used car imports arriving at Iquique, Chile are exported directly to Paraguay. That's more than 43,000 cars over the last 12 months, however the rhythm has increased to 1,000 imports per day lately! 80% of theses used cars are right-hand drive Japanese models, therefore supposedly unfit for Paraguyan roads. Again, strange.

Matt I had a Chevrolet classic. It’s decently quick and handles pretty well. Though it was an ’06, it was technically used because it had 8100 miles when I bought it. I paid around 24k for mine, so 15-17k for a used ’02-03 seems appropriate.

    Saludos.

Hi Matt! It’s great what you did, I’m always glad to help!! And it’s also nice to know that other people could contribute with more specific details about different countries, in this case Paraguay.
