UK May 2011: Ford Fiesta, Focus and VW Golf on podium

The UK car market is down for the 11th successive month in May to 150,431 units. However the 1.7% decline was the smallest fall reported since registrations began to contract in July last year. The year-to-date figure is down 7% to 846,513 sales. The Ford Fiesta leads the way for the 9th time in the last 12 months at 5.4% share.

The Ford Focus is back up to #2 at 6,492 units and 4.3%, bringing its 5 month 2011 total to 35,770 or 4.2%. The VW Golf stays extremely solid in 3rd place and even improves its market share over April at 3.7%. It climbs to #4 year-to-date with 27,615 sales and 3.3%, below the Vauxhall Corsa but above the Vauxhall Astra.

Nearly 3 years after its original launch, the Vauxhall Insignia manages to stay within the UK Top 7 for 5 consecutive months: it is #6 in May at 4,205 units and 2.8%. The BMW 3 Series excels at #7 and 2.7% and the VW Passat is in the Top 10 for the 2nd month in a row at 2% share.
