New Caledonian consumers bought 13,680 cars this year, up 3% year-on-year to bring the market back to its 2007 and 2008 levels. The Ford Ranger is by far the best selling model here for the 2nd year in a row with 915 sales and 7.9% market share, up 13%. The Toyota Hilux takes the 2nd place again at 433 units and 3.7%, up a massive 22%.
The Renault Clio rounds up the podium with 365 sales and 3.1%, up 22% too but this is and exception for French models. Being a French territory, New Caledonia buys surprisingly few French car: from 55% in 2003, the penetration of French has fallen to 22% in 2010, with Ford the best-selling brand at 11.4% market share, up 18%.
Confirming new Caledonia’s taste for pick-ups, the Nissan Navara ranks 4th in 2010 at 349 units and 3%. It is followed by the Chevrolet Aveo and Peugeot 206+, both at 2.7%. The Dacia Logan is #7 at 2.3% and the best-selling Korean car is the Kia Sorento at #9 with 2.1% share.
