Italy 2007: Fiat Punto & Panda lead, Bravo & 500 arrive

Italian car sales reach their record level in 2007 at 2,510,837 registrations, up 8% year-on-year. The Fiat Punto/Grande Punto leads the way again at 224,722 sales and 9%, however a Bestsellingcars estimated split puts the Grande Punto #2 overall with 166,840 units and 6.6% (stable year-on-year) and the Punto at 56,275 units and 2.2% (-10%).
The Fiat Panda keeps getting better year after year at +14% and 169,130 sales or 6.7% share. It delivers its best ever figures in March with 20,593 units and an impressive 7.9% market share. Bestsellingcars estimates even put the Panda #1 ahead of the Grande Punto for 6 months out of 12.
Two major launches for Fiat this year: the Fiat Bravo replaces the Stilo and shines in its first few months, reaching what would end up being its best month ever as early as April in 5th place with 5,394 sales and 2.6%. It slows down straight after and finishes the year at #14 with 40,644 units and 1.6%.
The all new Fiat 500 has more luck: launched in July, it lands on the podium at its 3rd month of sales in September at #3 and peaks at 8.666 sales and 4.2% in October. It is #17 overall with 33,250 sales.
Third year in a row in 3rd position for the Ford Fiesta, improving its sales by 22% year-on-year at 94,220 units and 3.8%. It is stuck to #3 all year before the arrival of the Fiat 500. The Toyota Yaris stays #4, up 12% at 2.9% share, peaking at a fantastic 2nd spot and 5.5% in December. Thanks to the new generation now at full speed, the Opel Corsa is up 8 spots and 92% to #5 with 70,795 sales.
New entrant in the Top 10, the Peugeot 207 is #8 for its first full year of sales at 53,802 units. A few models reached their best position ever in Italy this year, including the BMW 3 Series breaking into the Top 10 for the first time at #10 in September and December, the Smart Fortwo at #11 in December and the Alfa Romeo 159 at #14 in March and June.
