Czech Republic 2001-2002: Skoda Fabia in command

The Skoda Fabia launches in October 1999 and is the first Skoda model with all of its mechanical parts developed by or in conjunction with Volkswagen. It replaces the Felicia at the lead of Czech car sales in 2001 with 25.5% share, keeping its title in 2002 when it holds a mammoth 35.4% market share.

In 2001, the Octavia ranks #2 ahead of an outgoing Felicia. The Peugeot 206 is the best-selling foreigner ahead of the Opel Astra, VW Passat and VW Golf. In 2002, the Skoda Octavia stays at #2 with 12.9% share. As far as imports are concerned, Peugeot dominates with the 206 #3 overall at 2.7% and the 307 #4 at 2.1%. The VW Passat, Renault Thalia (a Clio Sedan) and Skoda Superb follow.
