Italy 1999: Fiat Punto best-seller for 6th consecutive year

Italian cars sales are down slightly this year at -2% and 2,331,898 registrations. The Fiat Punto is facelifted and stays the best-selling model in Italy for the 6th year in a row, however its market share goes under 10% in the full year for the first time since the nameplate’s launch at 9.5% and 220,965 sales.
Fiat monopolises the podium with the Panda ranking 2nd for the third consecutive year, up 2% to 120,561 units and the Seicento landing in third place for its first full year of sales at 105,720 registrations, up 124% on 1998.
The Lancia Y is down one spot and 24% to #4 and 89,426 sales while the VW Golf is up 31% and 7 ranks to #5 and 78,978 units just above the Opel Corsa at 78,850 sales. The Ford Focus makes its first appearance in the Italian year-end Top 10 at #10 with 65,084 units while the Peugeot 206 just misses out at #11 and 61,112 sales. Notice also the Daewoo Matiz up 237% to a brilliant 17th place with 39,701 units sold.
