Brazil 1993: Gol, Uno & Escort on podium, VW Logus lands
In 1993 the VW Gol keeps the leadership of the Brazilian car market with 180,937 sales (+33%). It was on top 10 months out of 12 and peaked at 18,399 units in July. The Fiat Uno takes the 2nd spot with 147,012 sales and an impressive +69% over 1992. It was #1 in November (16,476 units) and December (15,433).
The Ford Escort gains 3 spots and ranks 3rd at 89,812 sales and +185%, followed by the Chevrolet Kadett (67,713, +61%) and Monza (66,664, +25%). The VW Logus, launched in February, is the best performing all-new model in Brazil this year. It peaks at #4 and 7,468 sales in October and finishes the year 6th with 43,240 sales. For its first full year of sales the Chevrolet Omega is #11.
Notice a few uniquely Brazilian models further down the ranking: the Ford Versailles (#12), Chevrolet Ipanema (#13), VW Quantum (#15), Ford Royale (#19) and Chevrolet Suprema (#20). The VW Fusca (aka Beetle) enjoys a second life when it is put back into production in September. It is #18 overall.
