After two years of steep decline, the Ecuadorian new vehicle market rebounds spectacularly in 2017 with sales up 65.3% to 105.077 units based on data published by the AEDE, the Asociacion de Empresas Automotrices del Ecuador. This includes 82.855 passenger cars, up 84.9% year-on-year according to OICA. Chevrolet continues to dominate the market head and shoulders, with 41% of the light vehicle market. Kia follows at 19%, ahead of Hyundai at 9%, Great Wall at 7%, Toyota at 5% and Nissan at 4%. Ford, Mazda and Renault complete the Top 10. Over in the commercial vehicle market (vans, trucks and buses), Hino dominates with 32% share above Chevrolet at 23%, Kia at 6%, Hyundai at 5% and Chery at 4%. Chinese carmakers JAC, Foton and Dongfeng SK also rank inside the Top 20.
