Thanks to a December volume up 102.1%, the Ukrainian new light vehicle market ends the year with a solid 7.6% uptick to 79,304 sales. Toyota (-3.8%) remains the best-selling carmaker in the country but drops to 12.8% and should enjoy this win as it will probably be the last in a while. Indeed BYD (+372.4%) was #1 from September onwards and up to an incredible 26.3% share in December. The Chinese carmaker ends the year #2 with 12.1% share. Volkswagen (+35.8%) excels and stays at #3 ahead of a freefalling Renault (-27.9%). Skoda (+23.8%) and Hyundai (+36.9%) follow in excellent shape as do Audi (+33.4%) and Honda (+18.2%) but Zeekr (+250.3%) is the most impressive, up from #24 in 2024 to a world best #8 with 3.6% share, peaking at #4 and 7.1% in December.
Model-wise, the Renault Duster (-26.8%) implodes but stays #1 with 5.1% share. Like Toyota in the brands ranking, this is probably the Duster’s last annual pole position as a slew of Chinese-made models dominated the second half of the year. The Toyota RAV4 (-13.7%) also retains its ranking at #2 and despite a sharp fall. The VW ID.Unyx (+16221.1%), manufactured in China and grey-imported here, ends the year at #3 but ranked #1 in September, October and December. The BYD Song Plus (+159.7%), #1 in July, is up 8 spots on last year to #4, followed by the Hyundai Tucson (+62.7%), Toyota Prado (+160.8%), Skoda Kodiaq (+39.5%) and VW Touareg (+11.4%). The BYD Leopard 3 (aka Fang Cheng Bao Tai 3) is the most popular new launch at #9 and topped the charts outright in November.
