Sweden November 2025: Volvo EX/XC40 best-seller in devastated market

The Volvo EX/XC40 is the most popular vehicle at home in November.

It’s a very difficult month for new car sales in Sweden, hit -15.4% year-on-year to just 21,016 units. The year-to-date tally is still in positive however at +2.4% to 249,121. Rechargeable cars account for 65.4% of the market this month vs. 61.7% a year ago. In the detail, BEVs are down -5.7% to 8,496 and 40.4% share vs. 36.3% in November 2024 while PHEVs retreat -16.8% to 5,253 and 25% share vs. 25.4% last year.

After reaching 21.8% share last month which was its highest in almost 3 years, Volvo implodes -35% to just 15% of the market, ending November just 36 sales above Volkswagen (+8.3%). Kia (+10.5%) does even better to 9.8% share vs. 7.3% so far this year. Toyota (+2.7%) is also in positive at #4 while Cupra (+16.3%) breaks its ranking record at #9. Lynk & Co (+140%), Citroen (+85.5%) and Fiat (+49%) make themselves noticed below. Tesla crashes -59.3% and -66.3% year-to-date.

Model-wise, the Volvo EX/XC40 (+25.3%) delivers its first monthly win since December 2023 with 4.6% share, toppling the YTD leader, a freefalling Volvo XC60 (-44.1%). The VW ID.7 (+41.3%) and Kia EV3 (+300%) camp on their October rankings, at an excellent #3 and #4 respectively. The Toyota Yaris Cross (+39.2%) is up five spots on last month to #7 vs. #15 year-to-date, with the Kia Sportage (+50%), Toyota RAV4 (+9.2%) and VW Passat (+6.9%) also up in the remainder of the Top 10. The Tesla Model Y is off -66.7% but rallies back up 54 spots on October to #8.
