France November 2025: Renault 5 up to #3

The Renault 5 is the third best-selling vehicle at home in November.

The French new car market ends a streak of three consecutive month of year-on-year gains with November figures down -0.3% to 132,927 according to AAA Data. The year-to-date tally is now off -4.9% to 1,459,227. Petrol sales are off -30.1% to 23,357 and 17.6% share vs. 25.1% in November 2024, diesel sinks -20% to 7,059 and 5.3% share vs. 6.6% a year ago, HEVs edge up 4.4% to 54,761 and 41.2% share vs. 39.4% last year and PHEVs skid -18.7% to 9,495 and 7.1% share vs. 8.8% in November 2025; Meanwhile, BEVs surge 47.5% to 34,292 units and 25.8% share vs. 17.4% a year ago. Year-to-date, BEV registrations are up 9% to 285,023 and 19.5% share vs. 17% over the same period in 2024.

In the brands ranking, Renault (+13.6%) powers ahead to 19.2% share, with almost 10,000 sales more than #2 Peugeot (-12.2%) at just 11.8% of the market. This is the largest gap between the two star manufacturers since last June. Volkswagen (-4%) is up two spots to #5 despite falling year-on-year, this is the German brand’s first podium finish since September 2024. It however remains #6 year-to-date. Dacia (-16.5%) has a rare weak month and is puddles down to #4, followed by Toyota (-3.7%) and Citroen (+14.2%) falling to #6 despite a solid Yoy evolution. BMW (-2.4%) returns to the #1 premium spot at #7 ahead of Audi (+22%). Skoda (+13.2%) and Mercedes (+13%) conclude the Top 10 in strong fashion. MG is estimated to grow 66.1% to #12 while Mini is up 103.2% to #15 and Nissan up 39.9% to #16. Tesla is down -57.8%.

Model-wise, the Renault Clio V (+23.5%) is potentially boosted by end of life discounts on the outgoing generation and reaches 6.6% share, comfortably above the Peugeot 208 (-7.1%) at just 4.1%. The event of the month is the third place of the Renault 5 (+59.4%) with record volumes (5,286) and share (4%). Previous bests were #6 last month and in December 2024, 4,551 and 3.3% both last month. The R5 ends the month just 209 sales below the 208. The fantastic performance of the R5 is due to two factors. First, the “social leasing” operation, offering extra-low monthly long term leases payments for lower income customers buying BEV models. The R5 accounts for no less than 25% of all cars leased through the program. Second, the launch of a base model called Five at 24,990€ before subsidies. The Dacia Sandero (-13%), Citroen C3 (-2.4%) and Peugeot 2008 (+10.8%) follow. The Toyota Yaris (+17.6%) is now above the Yaris Cross (-4%) YTD. Notice also the Renault 4 up a further 4 ranks on last month to a record #24, which is still relatively disappointing, especially given the success of the R5.
