India October 2025: Sales up 17.3%, monthly volume record smashed to 466,814

The new Victoris helps Maruti Suzuki reach new heights.

It’s an exceptional month for new light vehicle wholesales in India. October volumes surge 17.3% year-on-year to 466,814 units, by very far the biggest monthly tally in history, eclipsing the previous best of 401,538 of last January. This is only the second time Indian wholesales pass the 400,000 monthly units mark. Justifying this sensational score is the introduction of a new GST structure (GST-2.0), which cut tax on entry-level cars from around 28% to 18%. Also, both the Dussehra and Diwali festivals occurred which is an auspicious time for car purchases. The year-to-date tally is now up 2.6% to 3,708,649, a new record at this stage of the year.

In line with the market, no less than six manufacturers reach a volume record this month. First is Maruti Suzuki (+10.5%) at over 175,000 units. Mahindra (+31.4%) hits 71,624 sales for a record 15.3% share, Tata (+27%) is over 61,000 and Toyota (+43.1%) crosses the 30,000 and 40,000 sales milestones for the first time all at once. Kia (+29.9%) is also at an all time high just under 30,000 sales with Skoda (+102.3%) breaking its record at 8,252. Disappointing are Jeep (-22.4%), Nissan (-16.2%), Volkswagen (-9.2%), MG (-9.2%) and Hyundai (-3.2%).

Model-wise, the Tata Nexon (+49.6%) repeats at #1 but is stuck in 5th place year-to-date. It is followed like in September by the Maruti Suzuki DZire (+63.7%) – still #1 YTD. In third place, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (+6.9%) crosses the 20,000 monthly sales milestone for the first time, ending the month ahead of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (+36.3%) and Hyundai Creta (+5.1%). No other Top 10 model beats the market but all are in positive. Further down, the Mahindra Bolero (+45.6%) breaks its volume record at 14,343 and the new Maruti Suzuki Victoris reaches 13,500 sales for its 2nd month in market. Other record breakers include the Mahindra XUV3X0, Mahindra Thar, Toyota Hyryder and Toyota Innova+Hycross.
