Portugal September 2025: Tesla manages first 1-2 with Model 3 and Model Y in the lead
The Tesla Model 3 is the best-selling vehicle in Portugal in September.
17,001 new vehicles found a buyer in Portugal in September, a solid 12.9% year-on-year improvement. The year-to-date volume is now up 8.7% to 171,566. Peugeot (+6.8%) reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date but trails the market. It is the same situation for Mercedes (+3.2%) and Dacia (+5.8%) completing the podium. Tesla (+17.5%) is back up 17 spots on August to #4 and 7.1% share vs. #11 and 3.4% year-to-date where it is down -19.6%. This is the American carmaker’s highest share in Portugal since December 2023 (7.1% also). BMW (+10.2%) and Renault (+10.7%) follow with Volkswagen (+1.9%) and Toyota (-2.4%) struggling below. In contrast Cupra (+123.9%), Fiat (+112.9%), Skoda (+71.9%), Citroen (+58.5%), BYD (+52.1%) and Audi (+43.3%) are all in great shape. Xpeng (+827.3%) continues to gear up while we welcome Chinese fares Deepal (#38) and Aion (#42) in the ranking.
Over in the models charts, Tesla manages a 1-2 for the first time in Portuguese history. The Model 3 (-15.9%) falls but still manages to snap the pole position with 3.8% share, followed by the Model Y (+128.5%) up 54 spots on August to #2. This is the Model 3’s fourth win in Portugal after November 2023, May 2024 and September 2024. #1 last month, the Dacia Sandero (+8.7%) falls to #3 with the Peugeot 2008 (+21.1%) and Renault Clio (+26.7%) rounding out the Top 5. The Peugeot 308 (+106.3%) is up to #6 for the 2nd time this year after last January. The Nissan Qashqai (+79.4%) and Mercedes A Class (+22.5%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10.
