Norway September 2025: Electric cars at record 98.3% share, Tesla Model Y at 28.8% of market
The Tesla Model Y reaches 28.8% share in Norway in September.
New car sales in Norway shoot up 10.5% year-on-year in September to 14,329 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 23.5% to 113,325. Thanks to sales up 12.7% to 14,084, BEVs reach a new all-time record share this month at 98.3%, eclipsing the previous best of 97.2% reached just last July. Year-to-date BEV sales are up 32.9% to 107,608 and 95% share vs. 88.2% over the same period in 2024. Meanwhile PHEV sales are off -41.8% to 85, HEVs sales are down -78.9% to 30, petrol is down to 25 sales and diesel to 105. Another share record is the 77.6% hit by 4×4 vehicles thanks to 11,115 sales and vs. 69.6% in September 2024.
In the brands charts, Tesla (+14.7%) outpaces the market to reach a mammoth 33.7% share, its highest since March 2023 (40.8%) which is still a record. Year-to-date volumes are up a robust 23.1% to 19.2% share. Volvo (+27.6%) snaps the 2nd spot with 8.7% of the market and advances to #3 year-to-date as a result. Volkswagen (+17.2%) is down to #3 and 7.9% share vs. 13.2% so far this year. Skoda (-13.6%) and BMW (-22.1%) disappoint and round out the Top 5. Ford (+114.2%) also impresses at #7 while MG is up five spots to #9 and Polestar (+124.3%) up ten to #10, signing a rare Top 10 finish. Toyota (-90.4%) tumbles down to #25 with just 0.6% share due to depleted stocks of the bZ4X which won’t be replenished until the new year.
Tesla has long run zero-interest campaigns on both the Model 3 and Model Y, and we can see the results: the Model Y is up 96.1% year-on-year to 28.8% share, its highest since the otherworldly (and record) 38.4% reached in March 2023. Although down -66.3% year-on-year, the Tesla Model 3 is up to 2nd place for the month with 4.9% share. The Volvo EX30 (-27.6%) also struggles year-on-year but climbs back up five spots on August to #3 thanks to the arrival of the Cross Country variant. The new Skoda Elroq hits a new record ranking at #4 ahead of the Volvo EX40 (+282.7%), Ford Explorer (+112.9%), VW ID.7 (+165.1%) and Polestar 4 (+367.6%) all in outstanding shape.
