Vietnam August 2025: VinFast monopolises Top 4 for 2nd time in a row

The VinFast Herio Green holds 5.9% of the Vietnamese market in August and ranks #3.

According to data by local association VAMA and Hyundai the Vietnamese new vehicle market edges down -0.6% year-on-year in August to 29,674 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 13.1% to 252,229. This month once again we have access to exclusive figures by local manufacturer VinFast, which sends the overall market to 40,596 for the month and 342,199 YTD. VinFast reaches 26.9% share of its home market in August vs. 26.3% so far this year. Toyota (+10%) and Thaco-Kia (+2.3%) defy the negative market to complete the podium like they do YTD. Hyundai (-20.9%) is once again in great difficulty but climbs back up to #4 ahead of Ford (+8.4%). Honda (+96.1%) is euphoric and up two spots on last month to #6.

Model-wise, for the second month in a row (and ever) VinFast monopolises the Top 4. The VF 5 overtakes the VF 3 to land at #1 despite only holding 6.8% of its home market vs. 7.9% so far this year. The Herio Green, a basic version of the VF 5 dedicated to taxi and ride hailing companies, goes from 4.6% in July to a record 5.9% in August and repeats at #3, distancing the VF6 up to 5% share. The Ford Ranger (+18.6%) is once again the best of the rest at #5 but still ranks #4 year-to-date. Excellent scores by the Honda City (+169.8%) at #5 and the Ford Everest (+29.7%) at #7.
