Brazil August 2025: BYD up 46.4%, Toyota Corolla Cross at record #4

Toyota Corolla Cross sales are up 79.2% year-on-year in August.

The Brazilian new light vehicle recedes -3.6% year-on-year in August to 214,666 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 3.4% to 1,576,160. Fiat (-8.2%) remains dominant in the brands charts despite a significant YoY loss at 21.1% share. Volkswagen (+6.3%) improves to 18.4% share vs. 17% so far this year while Chevrolet (-21.6%) freefalls to 10.2% of the market. Hyundai (-0.1%) overtakes Toyota (-17.2%) for fourth place while Renault (-0.7%) is up one spot on July to #6. BYD soars 46.4% to #7 and 4.6%, its best score since last May. GWM (+58.3%), Mitsubishi (+33.1%), Caoa Chery (+26.5%) and Ford (+13.6%) all impress below.

Model-wise, the VW Polo (-9.6%) is the overall best-seller for the 5th month in a row, but is stuck in the YTD 2nd place, over 4,000 sales below the Fiat Strada (-27.9%). The Fiat Argo (+30%) is strong and confirms its newfound third position. The Toyota Corolla Cross (+79.2%) delivers the largest YoY gain in the Top 30 and is up five spots on last month to #4, the nameplate’s new ranking record. The VW T-Cross (+9.2%) closes out the Top 5 above the Hyundai HB20 (+6.9%), Fiat Mobi (+47.7%) and Hyundai Creta (+11.5%) all defying the market fall with strong upticks. The Fiat Fastback (+14.3%) repeats at a best-ever 11th place, with the Fiat Pulse (+20.5%) also solid. The VW Tera is the best-selling recent launch and cracks the Top 20 for the first time at #19.
