Netherlands July 2025: Kia Picanto dominates strong market (+9%)

The Kia Picanto is the best-selling vehicle in the Netherlands in July.

New car sales in the Netherlands advance 9% year-on-year in July to 28,986 units, but the year-to-date volume is down -3.9% to 211,423. HEVs hold 51.8% of the market thanks to 15,019 sales, BEVs are at 30.8% and 8,929 sales, petrol at 15.5% and 4,501 units, diesel at 1.6% and 474 and LPG at 0.2% and 63.

Kia (+4.7%) easily reclaims the brands top spot it holds year-to-date with a commanding 12.6% share vs. 11% so far this year. Volkswagen (+61.5%) is up two spots to #2, a ranking it also now holds YTD. Toyota (+31.7%) is also up two ranks to #3 while Skoda (+96.8%) surges to #4 and now ranks #5 YTD. BMW (+9.7%) matches the market and rounds out the Top 5, followed by Hyundai (-9.7%), Ford (+22.3%) and Volvo (-50.1%). Leader last month and for the first time in 7 years, Renault (-13.6%) tumbles down to #9. Dacia (+54.1%), Mercedes (+42.5%), Opel (+36.2%) and Audi (+27%) make themselves noticed below. Tesla sinks -62.5%.

Kia manages a 1-2 this month. The Picanto (+35.9%) is a distant leader with 3.6% share, the nameplate’s first win in the Netherlands since October 2023. Leader YTD, the new Kia EV3 is back up to #2 with 2.8% of the market. The new Skoda Elroq drops one spot on June to a still fantastic third place, distancing the Ford Kuga (+71.3%) and Kia Niro (-53.5%) with opposing fortunes. The VW Tiguan (+367%) posts a surreal gain thanks to the new generation, while the Toyota Yaris (+73.6%), Yaris Cross (+47.3%) and Aygo X (+43.3%) all impress. Notice also the BMW X3 (+881.1%) up to #13 and the Renault 5 up two ranks to #15.
