Interesting market. When is GWM seriously coming to Europe? They have excellent cars.
I read that they are not interested in the European market, which is unusual for a Chinese brand.
They sell four models in Germany. Ora 03 (Funky Cat), Ora 07, Wey 03 and Wey 05. The Funky Cat had some success and I frequently see them. The rest not. I’ve read tests of the Wey and they weren’t too thrilled. While interior quality was good, they smell badly even after months. And biggest problem: the chassis. In America and China you can sell wobbly driving SUVs, but Europeans want an advanced chassis that fits our engaging roads better. The Funky Car faired better, especially in driving dynamics, but is a bit too expensive.
I saw some Turkish Haval in Greece this summer, they looked nice, but are also not very special.
I think
The only way they could succeed would be the price and that is often not as good as one might think.
Smell badly? What are you talking about?
The Germans despise Asian products a lot, but they have to start dealing with the fact that Asians have far better value products. Havals have something unique: PHEVs with huge batteries like 35 kWh to 45 kWh. They are practically electric cars with battery extenders. It’s an excellent solution for those who fear the low range of electric cars.
