World Full Year 2024: Discover the Top 500 best-selling models

The Toyota RAV4 is the most popular vehicle in the world in 2024.

Today and for the first time since 2020 we are able to share with you the 500 best-selling models in the world for 2024. As always there are detailed notes alongside the models to help you understand how the total volume has been calculated, and find your way in the maze of different rebadges. A ranking by OEM and brands will be added to this article shortly.

The Tesla Model Y is toppled to #2

We have big news atop the charts: the Toyota RAV4 upsets the Tesla Model Y to snap the worldwide pole position, albeit by less than 20,000 sales. The RAV4 is helped by a stellar performance in the US which accounts for 41% of its total volume, with China accounting for 28% with the addition of its twin the Wildlander, Europe at a meagre 7% and Japan at less than 3%. For its part the Tesla Model Y is sold at 41% in China, 33% in the US and 18% in Europe. Once the uncontested leader, The Toyota Corolla is still strong at almost 900,000 sales, 27% coming from the US and 20% from China. The Ford F-Series, sold almost exclusively in North America, still manages an excellent 4th place while the Honda CR-V rounds out the Top 5.

The Toyota Corolla Cross ranks #6 in the world in 2024.

A very impressive result for the Toyota Corolla Cross at just over 830,000 units mainly thanks to China accounting for 47% of its volume for the year and where it is also sold as the Front Lander. The Chevrolet Silverado follows at #7, ahead of the Hyundai Tucson, Toyota Camry and Nissan Sylphy. The VW Tiguan is the carmaker’s best-seller at #11, 15,000 units above the VW Passat which couldn’t survive without China, representing a whopping 86% of its worldwide tally when including its twin the Magotan. Notice also the Tesla Model 3 at #14 with almost 515,000 sales, 34% from China, 31% from the US and 22% from Europe. The BYD Qin Plus is the best-selling Chinese model in the world at #15 overall, followed closely by the BYD Seagull (#16) and BYD Song Plus (#18).

Below the Ford F-Series and Chevrolet Silverado, the Toyota Hilux (#17) is the third best-selling pickup in the world, with the Ram Pickup (#19) and GMC Sierra (#22) in tow. The Nissan Rogue aka X-Trail also insert itself inside the Top 20. The Mercedes GLC (#27) is the best-selling premium vehicle, distancing the BMW X1 (#31), BMW X3 (#37), BMW 3 Series (#38) and Audi Q5 (#39). Other successful Chinese fares include the BYD Yuan Plus aka Atto 3 (#34), Geely Xingyue L aka Renault Grand Koleos (#40) and Wuling Hongguang Mini EV (#46). Underwhelming performance by the VW Golf, once used to being near the top of the charts but down to a paltry 32nd place in 2024. The Dacia Sandero ranks at #33 and the Renault Clio at #36.
