Romania June 2025: Market off -50.3%, Dacia Duster dominant, Bigster cracks Top 10
First Top 10 finish at home for the Dacia Bigster.
New car sales in Romania implode once again in June at a devastating -50.3% year-on-year to 10,612, leading to a H1 2025 tally off -22.4% to 64,821. Keep in mind however that June 2024 volumes were up a spectacular 62.1% on the year prior. The Top 6 best-selling carmaker are all down by double-digits. Renault (-65.3%), Dacia (-60.5%) and Hyundai (-58.5%) are the hardest hit, with Toyota (-49.2%) and Volkswagen (-46.5%) roughly matching the market and Skoda (-25.4%) doing a lot better. Mercedes (+9.5%) and most of all Peugeot (+105.3%) defy the gloomy context with year-on-year lifts. BMW (-14.2%) resists at #9. Below, Citroen (+70.1%), Audi (+15.4%) and Volvo (+12.2%) are the only gainers in the remainder of the Top 20.
Model-wise, the Dacia Duster (-49.9%) enjoys a 5th straight month at #1, and at 11.1% share it is at its highest level in over a year: since the 12.6% it hit back in May 2024. The Dacia Logan (-75.3%) is obliterated at just 6.2% share vs. 8.2% so far this year. The Logan was in a similar situation a year ago but still managed to snap the Full Year 2024 lead so a 2025 Duster win is far from certain at this stage. The Dacia Sandero (-67.8%) is also weak at 3.8% share vs. 5% so far this year. The Skoda Octavia (-36.7%) is the best-selling foreigner again at #4, distancing the Toyota Corolla (-42.3%), Renault Clio (-20.2%) and Hyundai Tucson (-32.1%). The Toyota Yaris Cross (-26.9%) breaks its ranking record at #8 (previous best #9 in September 2024). Finally the new Dacia Bigster is up 8 spots on May to break into its home’s Top 10 for the first time at #10.
