Norway June 2025: Tesla Model Y holds 27.2% share, Exlantix lands

The Tesla Model Y holds a gigantic 27.2% market share in Norway in June.

18,376 new cars found a buyer in Norway in June, a satisfying 4.9% year-on-year improvement. The YTD growth pace is much higher though, at +23.3% to 75,515. At 17,799 sales (+27%) BEVs account for a whopping 96.9% of the market this month, just below the all-time record of 97% reached last April. This is to be compared to 80% share a year ago in June 2024. Year-to-date BEV sales are up 36% to 70,748 units and 93.7% share vs. 84.9% over H1 2024. Meanwhile HEVs are down -89.1% to 223, PHEVs off -83.7% to 152, petrol holds 0.3% share and diesel 0.8%.

Tesla (+53.8%) is back to ultra domination in Norway with 30.7% share for the month, the carmaker’s highest since last September (32.5%). As a result it is back to #1 year-to-date. Volkswagen (+52.1%) is also in fantastic shape year-on-year but has to settle with a lukewarm 10.6% share vs. 14.4% so far this year. In contrast Volvo (-21.4%) and Toyota (-65.2%) struggle mightily. Polestar (+99.5%) doubles its sales year-on-year to land in 7th place, its 2nd highest ranking below the #4 it reached in September 2020. It also manages its highest market share since January 2021 at 4.2%. BYD (+450.4%), Ford (+100.7%), BMW (+78.9%) and Skoda (+66.7%) close out the Top 10 in stellar fashion. This month we welcome a new Chinese brand: Exlantix, also known as Exeed Exlantix in China, a carmaker by Chery.

Exlantix is the latest Chinese EV brand to land in the Norwegian market.

Over in the models charts, the Tesla Model Y (+115.3%) gobbles a gargantuan 27.2% share, the model’s strongest since March 2023 when it held a record 38.4% of the market. The Toyota bZ4X (+7.3%) remains in 2nd place but with a weak 4.5% share vs. 6.4% over H1. The VW ID.4 (-14.4%) ensures the podium is unchanged on last month and YTD. The Tesla Model 3 (-52.1%) implodes but rallies back up 14 spots on last month to #4, while the new BYD Sealion 7 is up two ranks to a record 5th place. The VW ID.7 (+1088.9%), Volvo EX40 (+318.5%), VW ID.3 (+117.9%) and Skoda Enyaq (+95.3%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10. Notice also the (expensive) Volvo EX90 climbing up ro #12 and the Polestar 3 (+2080%) up 36 spots on May to #14.
