Local association ACEA has the market down -5.1% to 1,243,732 for the month and -0.9% YTD to 6,815,320. Looking at the top five markets on the continent, Italy (-17.4%), Germany (-13.8%) and France (-6.7%) all fall faster than the market whereas Spain (+15.2%) and the UK (+6.7%) both post solid gains. Other great performing countries include Ireland (+63.2%), Latvia (+39.4%), Lithuania (+32.7%), Iceland (+27.2%), Portugal (+14.8%), Bulgaria (+12.4%) and Finland (+10.1%). Skoda sales are up 12.4%, mainly thanks to the new Elroq.

SUVs continue to drastically improve their presence on the continent with sales up 5.2% to 708,956 and 56.7% share vs. 51.5% a year ago and up 6.7% over H1 to 3,810,553 and 55.7% share vs. 52% over the same period in 2024. In the H1 2025 OEM ranking, The Volkswagen Group (+3%) advances to 1.8 million sales, widening the gap with #2 Stellantis down a harsh -9% to 1.04 million units. Renault Group (+6%) and Ford Motor (+6%) post the largest gains in the Top 10 with the BMW Group (+4%) also up. The Toyota Group (-8%) struggles.

Brand-wise, Volkswagen (-8.3%) loses market share year-on-year but easily maintains itself in pole position with over 130,000 units. Renault (-2%) limits its YoY fall and climbs three spots on last month to a splendid 2nd place, last hit in June 2023. End of quarter and semester are traditionally stronger for the French manufacturer. Skoda (+12.4%) is once again in great shape, lodging the biggest gain in the Top 20 but dropping one rank on May to #3, a ranking it also holds over H1. BMW (+4.3%) is strong and repeats at #4, distancing Toyota (-16%) in dire straits at #5 but still #2 year-to-date. Peugeot (+6%) and Mercedes (+1.3%) are also in positive in the remainder of the Top 10. Tesla slows down its fall to a still daunting -23% and is back up to #14. Below, BYD (+312.3%) surges ahead at #23, newcomer Jaecoo is up to #28, Polestar gains 118.2% at #30 and Omoda is up 381.6% to #36. Leapmotor (+47275%) ranks at #40 ahead of fellow Chinese Lynk & Co (+187.2%) and Xpeng (+326.6%). Alpine is up 45.7% thanks to the new A290.

The Renault Clio is #1 in Europe for the third straight month.

Over in the models charts, the Renault Clio (+15.8%) brilliantly threepeats at #1 partly thanks to a fantastic result at home in France which accounts for exactly 50% of its total European volume for the month. It consolidates its 2nd spot year-to-date. At #2 we have the Tesla Model Y (+0.1%) traditionally stronger in end of quarter months and finally stable YoY thanks to its facelift. This is to be compared with -49% in January, -56% in February, -42% in March, -53% in April and -6.7% in May. Model Y sales don’t include a dominant market, with 21% of its June tally held by Norway, 18% in the UK and 14% in France. The Dacia Sandero (-13.6%) is in difficulty but still ranks #1 over H1, just like last year. France represents 30% of its June total. Disappointing score for the VW T-Roc (-8.4%), 33% of its sales coming from Germany. The Peugeot 2008 (+4.8%) cracks the European Top 5 for the first time since October 2023. It ranks #8 over H1 vs. #14 in 2024. The VW Golf (-18.6%) is in compete freefall to #9 (44% coming from Germany).

Looking at BEV brands, Tesla (-23%) reclaims the top spot off Volkswagen (+11%) but the German brand remains by far the best-seller over H1. BMW (+17%) closes out the podium above Skoda (+187%), Audi (+43%) and Renault (+25%). BYD (+132%) ranks within the Top 10 for the second time in the past 3 months at #10, with Hyundai (+35%) and Mercedes (+19%) also dynamic. Xpeng (+328%), Ford (+304%), Porsche (+261%) and Dacia (+131%) impress below. The Tesla Model Y (+0.1%) and Model 3 (-48%) top the BEV models charts but the VW ID.4 (+38%) is up to #2 year-to-date. The new Skoda Elroq falls one spot to #3 while the Renault 5 is up six ranks on last month to #4.
