Malaysia April 2025: Proton up to 18.8% share, e.MAS 7 inside Top 20
The Proton e.MAS 7 has been the best-selling EV in Malaysia ever since its launch in January.
64,615 new cars found a buyer in Malaysia in April, meaning the year-to-date volume now stands at 261,641. Local behemoth Perodua easily holds onto the top spot with a gargantuan 42.4% share, albeit slightly below its YTD level of 43%. Second local carmaker Proton ranks #2 with 18.8% share, above the 17.7% it commands so far this year. Toyota, #3 at 15.5% of the market, does also better than YTD (14%). Below Honda at #4 and 6.7% share, no other carmaker holds more than 2.2% of the market and only two surpass 1,000 sales: Chery (2.2%) and BYD (1.6%). Mazda is up one spot on last month to #9 and Lexus up three to #11.
Model-wise, the Top 5 remains unchanged on last month and YTD. Perodua places the Bezza at #1, the Axia at #2, the Myvi at #3 and the Alza at #5 while Proton has the Saga at #4. Note all models deliver market shares below their YTD level. The Perodua Ativa is up one spot on March to #5, the Toyota Vios up two to #7 and the Proton X50 up four to #8. With the S70 repeating at #10, Proton has three models inside the Top 10 this month. Notice also the Proton Persona up two ranks to #13 and the Proton e.MAS 7 (aka Geely EX5), the best-selling EV in the country, breaking into the Top 20 for the first time at #18.
