Denmark May 2025: Skoda Elroq repeats at #1, Renault 5 up to #6

The Renault 5 is up to a world-best #6 in Denmark in May, also reached in France.

New car sales in Denmark shoot up 23.2% year-on-year in May to 17,953 units, leading to a year-to-date total up 5.5% to 70,508. Volkswagen (+56%) easily retains the top spot in the brands charts with 16.3% share, distancing a surging Skoda (+235.8%) at 10.9%, now also ranking #2 year-to-date. BMW (+88.2%) is up one spot on April to #3, overtaking Audi (+2.4%). Toyota (+10%) and Mercedes (-5.2%) are weak below just as Cupra (+144.9%) continues to evolve at stratospheric levels – Denmark being its biggest success story, ranking at #7 both for the month and year-to-date. Xpeng (+121.6%), Kia (+101.6%) and Renault (+69.3%) also stand out below. Tesla is down -30.5% to #9.

Over in the models charts, the new Skoda Elroq, launched just last January, repeats at #1 and strengthens its grip over the Danish market with a record 8.1% share. The VW ID.4 (+17%) keeps the YTD pole position for now but ranks #2 for the month. The Tesla Model Y (+17%) is back up to #3 with a positive year-on-year evolution, it now ranks #5 year-to-date with deliveries off -40.5% over the same period in 2024. The VW T-Roc (+201.8%) and ID.3 (+73%) complete the Top 5. The new Renault 5, also launched last January, surges 61 ranks on last month to reach an outstanding 6th place, equalling its worldwide ranking record also hit in France last December. The Audi A5 (+732.1%) continues to surprise at #7 while the new Kia EV3 breaks into the Top 10 for the first time at #8.
