Spain April 2025: Hyundai i20 surges to #2 in solid market
The Hyundai i20 is the second best-selling vehicle in Spain in April.
The Spanish new car market continues on its solid run this year with April sales up 7.1% year-on-year to 98,522 units. This is an especially good result given April 2024 was already up 23.1% on the year prior. The year-to-date tally is up 12.2% to 377,889, still 13% below the pre-pandemic level of 2019 however. Rechargeable cars surge 79% to 15,957 and 16.2% share, up from 9.7% a year ago. Year-to-date sales are up 54% to 55,701 and 14.7% share. All channels are up this month: private sales are up 5.6% to 39,669, company sales up 5.1% to 30,707 and rental sales up 11.5% to 28,146. Year-to-date also all are in positive with private sales up 14.9% to 162,277, company sales up 7.3% to 121,503 and rental sales up 14.2% to 94,109. The market is still benefitting from replacement cars in the Comunidad Valenciana (+66.8%), with Baleares (+13.6%), Canarias (+13.3%) and la Rioja (+10.3%) also posting great scores.
Over in the brands charts, Toyota (-6.5%) reclaims the top spot it holds year-to-date, after falling to a nasty #5 last month and despite being the only manufacturer in the Top 4 in negative. Hyundai (+35.2%) jumps 10 spots on March to #2 with 8% share vs. #6 and 5.5% year-to-date. This is the Korean brand’s highest Spanish share since reaching 8.5% in August 2022. Renault (+19.9%) and Kia (+31.1%) both impress below, unlike Volkswagen (-8.8%) and Seat (-18.3%), the latter down four spots on last month to #6. Peugeot (+10.3%) and Mercedes (+9.4%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10.
The Dacia Sandero (-15.3%) remains the most popular vehicle in the country despite a steep fall, and cements its YTD lead with sales up 13.6%. The Hyundai i20 (+105.4%) is the performer of the month, up a whopping 53 ranks on March to land directly in 2nd place. The MG ZS (+41.1%) is relegated to third place but sports a splendid year-on-year uptick and stays #2 year-to-date. The Seat Ibiza (-8.5%) is back up to #4, distancing the Toyota Yaris Cross (+25.4%) and Peugeot 2008 (+60%) both in great shape. The Peugeot 208 (+34.4%) is the only additional gainer in the Top 10 at #10. Notice also the VW Taigo (+145.4%), Citroen C4 (+131.2%) and Kia Stonic (+91%) all shining below.
